The 4th annual Alvinston Pro Rodeo was held Father’s Day weekend, June 16th to June 18th 2023. The event, which pairs Rawhide Rodeo and the Brooke-Alvinston Agricultural Society had record breaking crowds over the weekend. This year they hosted more than 700 children during their rodeo field trip on Friday afternoon.

The Alvinston Optimists brought back the Mechanical Bull Riding Competition. This year there were 429 contestants signed up! Winners included in the kids competition ages 7 – 12, Vanessa Alexander of Sarnia. In the 13 to 18 category, Braydon Barnes of London. In the adult competition the overall winner both nights was Tristan MacLachlan of Watford with a time of 75 seconds. The overall female winner this year was ALvinston’s Elizabeth Nevill.

Colton Jackson, D. Hallock, Martin Timmermans and Jenny Rate ( an Alvinston and District Optimist Club member) were also winners in their categories. All winners walked home with a medal, bruises and and bragging rights!

New this year Chuck Wagon Racing was added with Chuck Snowden who also runs chuck wagon races at Ontario Fairs. Dan Cumming is quoted as saying “We’ve seen the chuckwagon races happening at other big rodeos like the Calgary Stampede and thought, why not give this a try in Alvinston.” (Petrolia Lambton Independent Jun 16th 2023). Regular events included Bareback Bronc Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Tie-Down Roping, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing plus Junior Barrel Racing, Junior Bull and Steer Riding and Bull Riding. Over 200 members of the International Professional Rodeo Association from around the world competed for top prizes in these events. Luckily the weather held out for another fantastic weekend!

Always a Father’s Day favourite the Cowboy Breakfast was also a success, this year serving 450 people. Thank to the Alvinston Optimists and their hard work and volunteer hours to making this breakfast such a success.

Hard work and dedication from all the dedicated volunteers is the reason behind the success of this event. Here is looking forward to 2024 Alvinston Pro Rodeo!
