Summer Sunday’s In The Park Are Back!

After some music, art, and fun a nap is needed at Summer Sundays in The Park!

The Brooke-Alvinston Arts and Activity Group and the committee for the Alvinston Art’s & Music Fest brought back Summer Sunday’s In The Park, held at the Alvinston Community Park. There will be three Sundays, one in June, one in July and one in August. They are free to everyone. The first Sunday took place on June 11th beginning with Jacklyn Wills at 1 pm and Missy Burgess closing out the afternoon.

After weeks of sunny, hot and humid weather the day started out looking like it was going to give us some much needed rain. Luckily for the Summer Sunday’s it held off for the event.

Father and Son, Jason Benoit and Bruce.

Jason Benoit, local musician, Summer Sunday organizer and sound man had help from his son Bruce in setting up for sound check. My question is… who is teaching who?

Jacklyn is a 22 year old singer and songwriter from Dresden who takes her inspiration from the amazing female performers, Stevie Nicks and Alanis Morissette, while tossing in a little taste of country. Jacklyn is fast becoming one of the organizers favourites inviting her back twice after first performing at the 5th Annual Arts & Music Fest. You be the judge once you watch her live performance.

Missy Burgess, also asked back this year is always glad to come out to Alvinston to perform. Missy grew up in a large family and learned early on to use her imagination to escape the chaos. Music came naturally, growing up to the sounds of big bands and jazz from her fathers record collection. Her brother Michael sang Gregorian chant in St. Michael’s Choir School in downtown Toronto. It was in 1996 when she began to take her music seriously after her nursing and teaching careers. Getting married having a son and everything that goes along with that. She credits a Fats Waller record her father brought home as her introduction to sound that “shook my insides and made me want to sing.”

Once again artist Daisy Fresh set up in the tent for an afternoon of kids crafts. Colouring and water colours to explore the kids creativity.

Along with the Crafts, Daisy brought some hoopla hoops to keep the kids inspired. Bruce took on the hoops working his skills with determination.

It was a workout for this young mom and her son as you can see the resulting nap! If anyone Knows this mom and her son’s names, please forward to liana@lianarusswurm.com .

The next Summer Sunday in the Park takes place on Saturday July 9th beginning at 1 pm with Musician Bill Knapp followed by the band Ruff ‘Round Th’Edges. Once again artist Daisy Fresh will be out to do crafts with the kids and encouraging them to explore and create!

The Summer Sundays in the Park are free for everyone and you are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Please share the info and spread the news.
